IC Places - The Beat of Sports , brings you weekly coverage of what is really important in the world of sports. It could be very hard to be considered a man if you don't posses the weekly knowledge our three hosts share with you each week.
Who are our Hosts?
David Baumann
Sports Anchor/Reporter
Bright House Sports Network
David is the ultimate sports fan and he gets paid to talk about sports. The Bright House Sports Network's Sports Anchor/Reporter says it doesn't get better than that! Covering sports is familiar territory for Baumann. He worked at Fox 25 in New England (when they used to telecast the Boston Red Sox games) and the ABC affiliate in Springfield, MO. He has also worked for Central Florida News 13 in Orlando from 2004 until the transition to the Bright House Sports Network in 2008.
The Rochester, New York, native graduated from Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications in 2002 with a double major in Broadcast Journalism and Economics, and is currently working on his MBA from the Crummer School at Rollins College in Orlando.
Ask him what he does when he's not working, and he'll tell you he's either watching or playing sports, enjoying Florida's beaches, jamming on his piano, training his basset hound "Dozer" or tinkering with his 1966 and 1969 Vespas. His obsession with vintage Vespas and Land Rovers is, according to him, "unhealthy and awesome."
Marc Daniels
ESPN Radio and The Voice of the UCF Knights
For 20 years sports fans have been tuning into the most popular voice of sports opinions in Orlando. Whether it be on radio or television, talk host or play-by-play announcer, Marc Daniels has been the voice of Orlando sports.
Today, Daniels can be heard with Orlando Sentinel columnist Mike Bianchi on "The Beat of Sports" radio show. The show airs Monday-Friday on ESPN 1080 from 9a-11a. (It is Orlando's most popular sports radio program.)
Daniels came to Orlando in 1989 as a sports radio host. He would help develop the area's first all-sports radio station. Daniels would serve as program director of that station for a decade. In addition to his programming duties, he hosted the popular "Coach and Company" show weekday afternoon for 12 years. e has been heard across the state with a statewide syndicated show. Daniels also developed a multi-market following when he hosted a morning sports show in Tampa and a night show in Orlando for over a year.
In addition to his talk show talents, Daniels has served as the play-by-play announcer for UCF for the last 15 years. He is the founder of Perfect Game Productions, which owns and produces "The Beat of Sports" radio program, Daniels is involved in a variety of projects that focuses on original content and new media platforms.
Mike Bianchi
Sports columnist of the Orlando Sentinel
As good-looking and naturally photogenic as Mike Bianchi is on camera, he is a newspaperman by trade. He's been the sports columnist of the Orlando Sentinel since 2001 and was previously at the Florida Times-Union, Gainesville Sun and Florida Today. He says the best explanation he's ever read about his profession is this: "The job of a sports columnist is to watch the battle from the mountaintop and then ride down and bayonet the wounded." And nobody likes to be wrong, but Bianchi is philosophical about it. "Just remember," he says, "doctors bury their mistakes, sports columnists only print ours."
